[Cold. Pain. Rin stirs, brow furrowing, fingers curling into the dried leaves by his face. He frowns, blinking his eyes open, focusing slowly on the surrounding trees. This is not where he expected to be.]

What the...?

[Pushing himself up, he shivers, then winces at an unfamiliar sensation on his back. Craning his head, he starts in surprise at seeing the pair of wings on his back. Is this some sort of weird dream?

...no, it's way too cold to be a dream.

Shivering again, he looks around, finding the small journal near where he had been lying. Picking it up, he thumbs through it, frowning at the entries he sees, confused. Finally, he thumbs the key to record a voice entry.]

[Voice]

Hey, so, I don't know where I am, but it's really freaking cold out here and I don't have a shirt or jacket or shoes or anything.

Also how the hell did I get wings?

[A rustle as he drops the journal to his side.]

If this is a dream I'd really like to wake up now. [Quiet, muttered, as though he may not be sure the journal is still recording.]

That's how it is. I told you, they're supposed to help your body adapt to the environment here. Just don't get yourself into any situation where someone can slice them off, and you'll be fine. [Easier said than done, with the inevitability of war hanging over them.]
